If you’re studying 6 hours with 7 hours of sleep, you’ll probably outperform someone studying 10 hours with 4 hours of sleep. That’s just reality.

Try this:

  • Protect 7–8 hours whenever possible
  • Stop heavy studying 30–45 minutes before bed
  • Do light review at night instead of new material
  • Keep your sleep and wake time roughly consistent

Your brain consolidates memory while you sleep. So yes, sleeping is studying. Fight me.

Learn with others, but don’t let group study turn into a social club

Group study can be amazing — if it’s structured.

Bad group study:

  • random gossip
  • everyone “teaching” the same chapter badly
  • too much time, too little output

Good group study:

  • one person quizzes the others
  • each person explains 1 topic
  • you compare notes on confusing concepts
  • you end with a short test

A 60-minute focused group session can save you 2 hours of confusion. But only if everyone shows up prepared.

And if your group constantly derails? Just leave. You’re not being rude. You’re protecting your grades.

Use tiny habits to survive the semester

Big changes are hard. Tiny habits stick.

  • 2-minute start rule: open the book and begin for just 2 minutes
  • Daily recap: write 3 things you learned before bed
  • One-page rule: summarize each topic on 1 page
